Delete your account

You can delete your account and your data. Please read what this means first.

Before you delete

Any remaining practice credits are lost when you delete your account. We cannot restore or refund them, and deleting does not refund any store purchase. Deleting the app, or signing out, does not delete your account.

Option 1: delete in the app

  1. Sign in to the app.
  2. Open the Settings tab.
  3. Under Delete account, choose Delete my account….
  4. Type DELETE to confirm, then choose Permanently delete my account.

These names match the current version of the app and may change. We recommend this option: it is the fastest.

Option 2: ask us to delete it

Use this if you cannot get into the app, for example after losing your phone.

  1. Email support@dawnstep.app from the email address on the account, with the subject “Delete my account”.
  2. We reply to that address and ask you to confirm. We may send a one-time confirmation code to the address. Confirming shows that you control the account’s email address.
  3. Once confirmed, we delete the account and tell you when it is done.

How we check it is you

  • We act on a request only when we can show it comes from the account’s email address.
  • We will not ask for your password, a sign-in code you were sent for the app, card numbers, or government ID.
  • If we cannot verify the request, we will not delete anything, and we will tell you why.
  • If you no longer control the email address, contact us and we will explain what is possible: write to us from any address and tell us the email address of the account and roughly when you signed up; we may ask you to confirm details that only the account holder would know, and if we cannot confirm that the account is yours we will not delete it.

Time to reply: we aim for 5 business days. Time to complete deletion once confirmed: usually within 24 hours, and no later than 30 days.

What is deleted

  • Your profile, sign-in and AI-permission records.
  • Job descriptions, experience summaries and role summaries you entered.
  • Practice sessions: questions, answers, transcripts, corrections, feedback and summaries.
  • Any reports you sent with “Report a problem with this”, including their notes.
  • Any audio recordings still stored. Recordings are normally deleted 24 hours after they have been transcribed (24 hours after upload if transcription fails; about 48 hours at the very most if a late retry succeeds), by a cleanup job that currently runs on the development server only.
  • Your credit balance, which is lost.

What we may keep, and why

WhatWhyHow long
Records of purchases and credit transactions (store, transaction ID, date, credits). They are kept without your name, email or account ID (your account ID is removed from our internal reference keys on these records when your account is deleted).Accounting, tax, fraud prevention and handling disputes. Kept separate from your practice content.Up to 6 years (the period Canadian tax law asks businesses to keep financial records).
Product-interaction events and technical job logs (event names, model names, token counts, timing and error codes; no practice content), with the link to your account removedKeeping the service reliable and understanding which parts of the app are used.Events are deleted after 90 days and technical job records after 180 days.
A record that you asked for deletion and that it was done (it keeps your old account ID and which deletion steps finished)To show that we honoured your request.Up to 6 years.
Emails between you and support about the requestTo handle the request and any follow-up.Up to 12 months after the conversation ends, then deleted.
Anything the law requires us to keepLegal obligations. As the law requires

Backups

Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups until they expire. Backup retention: daily backups are kept for 7 days.

Copies held by other companies

To run the service, we send some content to AI providers, as explained in the privacy policy. Those providers keep data under their own terms, which we do not control. Anthropic and OpenAI say they delete what we send within 30 days (longer only where their rules or the law require), and Resend keeps sign-in emails for 30 days. RevenueCat deletes its record of your purchases when we ask it to as part of deleting your account. We cannot promise that any provider’s copy disappears sooner than that.

Want less than a full deletion?

  • Deleting a single practice session: open the Sessions tab and choose Delete session. This removes that session’s questions, answers, transcripts, feedback and recordings. It does not give back a credit that the session already used.
  • Withdrawing permission for AI processing: open the Settings tab and choose Withdraw permission. This stops future processing but does not delete past data.

After deletion

You can create a new account later with the same email address, but your old data and credits will not come back.
