Terms of Use

  • Product: Dawnstep
  • Operator: Dawnstep (operated by Vatsal Solanki)
  • Effective date: October 9, 2026
  • Contact: support@dawnstep.app
  • Governing jurisdiction: Canada (the federal laws of Canada and the laws of the province or territory where Dawnstep’s operator lives)

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Dawnstep (operated by Vatsal Solanki) ("we", "us"). They apply when you use the Dawnstep app and website. By creating an account you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle data and forms part of this agreement. AI processing needs a separate permission, which the app asks for before any AI feature is used.

2. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. The service is for practising interviews in English. We aim to serve users in Canada and the United States first; it may be available elsewhere through the app stores, but we do not promise it works or is lawful to use in every country.

3. Your account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code we email to you. There is no password. Before the app sends you a code it asks you to tick a box saying you are 18 or older and agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. Keep access to that email address secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. One account is for one person. If you lose access to your email address, we may not be able to recover the account or its credits.

4. What the service is, and what it is not

Dawnstep is a practice tool. You paste a job description, answer practice questions out loud or in text, and receive written feedback. Please understand that:

  • AI can be wrong. Questions, summaries and feedback are generated by AI. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, generic, or unsuited to your situation. Use your own judgement.
  • It does not predict hiring. We do not estimate whether you will be hired, rank you against other candidates, or verify your qualifications. We do not guarantee any job, interview, offer or outcome.
  • It does not score your accent. Feedback is about what your answer says, such as relevance, specificity, structure and clarity. It is not about how you sound.
  • Transcripts can contain mistakes. You can correct a transcript before you submit it for feedback.
  • It is not professional advice. It is not legal, career, immigration or employment advice.
  • Do not use it during a real interview. It is for preparation only. Using any tool in a live interview may break the employer's rules.
  • Employers do not use it. Your results are not shared with employers or recruiters.

5. Your content

"Your content" means what you paste, say, type or record in the app, and the transcripts and feedback created from it.

  • You keep ownership of your content.
  • You give us a limited permission to store and process your content, including by sending it to the AI providers described in the Privacy Policy, only to provide the service to you. You keep ownership of your content. The permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the copies described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Only include material you have the right to use. Do not paste or import confidential material you are not allowed to share, such as a former employer's internal documents. Importing your own resume is fine; do not import someone else's.
  • Do not include sensitive personal information such as health details, immigration status, government ID numbers, financial account numbers, or personal details about other people.
  • Do not include unlawful, abusive or harmful content.

6. AI processing

To provide the service, we send some of your content to outside AI providers. The app asks for your permission first. If you decline or later withdraw permission, AI features stop working, and we cannot provide practice sessions. Which providers receive which data is explained in the Privacy Policy. We do not control the providers' own retention practices.

7. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law or others' rights using the service;
  • try to get around credit limits, payment checks or usage limits;
  • use bots, scrapers or automated tools to access the service;
  • probe, attack, reverse engineer, or interfere with the service or its security;
  • use the service to build a competing product or to generate large volumes of content for others; or
  • share your account.

We may limit, suspend or end access if you break these terms or put the service or other users at risk. If we can, we will tell you why by email, and you can write to us to ask us to look at it again.

8. Practice packs and credits

  • One free session is included with each new account.
  • You can buy consumable practice packs (see Practice packs). A pack adds practice sessions ("credits") to your account. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically.
  • The app store sets and shows the price in your local currency at the time of purchase. We do not set a separate price in the app.
  • What a session includes: 5 core questions, up to 2 follow-up questions across the session, and one retry for each core question. These limits are provisional and may change. A change will not reduce what a session you have already started includes.
  • How many sessions you can start: you can make up to 6 attempts to start a session in any rolling 24 hours. Attempts that failed to prepare, and sessions you later deleted, still count towards the limit. Picking up a session you already started does not count. This limit is configurable and may change.
  • When a credit is used: a credit is reserved when you start a session and used when you receive your first piece of feedback. If we cannot set up the session, the credit is returned. If a session has produced no feedback 48 hours after it was created (48 hours is configurable), the reserved credit is returned and the session is marked unfinished.
  • Credits do not expire in the first version of the app. We will not introduce expiry for credits you have already bought without telling you first.
  • 7-day practice pass (only if and when we offer it). A pass is a separate one-time purchase that gives you access for 7 days from the moment it starts. It ends by itself after 7 days, it does not renew, and it is not a subscription. While it is active, up to 3 sessions in any rolling 24 hours use the pass instead of your credits, and your credits are not touched. Once you have used those 3, further sessions use your credits if you have any, up to the overall limit above. A pass is not "unlimited". If you buy another pass while one is running, the new one starts when the current one ends. These details may change before the pass is offered.
  • Passes and interruptions. The time on a pass keeps running if the service is unavailable or new sessions are paused. We may add time at our discretion, but we do not promise to. A session you already started when a pass ends can still be finished.
  • Passes and refunds. Refunds are handled by the app store. If a pass is refunded, access under it ends at once; sessions you already started are not taken back. If you delete your account, any time left on a pass is lost and cannot be restored or refunded.
  • Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and cannot be redeemed for money.
  • Credits belong to your account, not your device. If you reinstall the app or change phones, sign in with the same email address to see your balance. Consumable purchases cannot be restored through the app store, so the sign-in is how your balance is recovered.
  • Refunds are handled by the app store (Apple or Google) under its own rules. Contact the store for a refund. If a purchase is refunded, we may reduce or remove the related credits. If a purchase is refunded, we remove the credits from that purchase that you have not yet used. Your balance never goes below zero, and we do not charge you for credits you already used.
  • If you delete your account, any remaining credits are lost. We cannot restore or refund them.
  • Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.

9. Availability and changes

We may change, pause or remove features, including turning off AI features if there is a problem with a provider or safety concern. We do not promise the service will always be available or error-free. We may update these terms; if a change is material, we will tell you in the app before it applies. If you do not agree, you can stop using the service and delete your account.

10. Our property

The app, website, design, text, prompts and software are ours or our licensors'. These terms do not give you rights in them beyond using the service as intended. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you allow us to use them without owing you anything.

11. Disclaimers and limits on liability

Dawnstep is a practice aid. We provide it “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that feedback is correct or complete, that the service will always be available, or that using it will lead to an interview, a job offer or any other outcome.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (for example a lost job opportunity), and our total liability to you for anything arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and your statutory consumer rights are not affected.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using the service at any time and delete your account in the app (Settings), or by contacting us if you cannot get into the app. Deleting your account is described in the Privacy Policy and on the Delete Account page. We may end or suspend your access under section 7.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Canada (the federal laws of Canada and the laws of the province or territory where Dawnstep’s operator lives). If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws where you live.

14. App store terms

Apple and Google are not responsible for the app, its support, or claims about it, except as their own terms require. If you got the app from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s standard end-user licence terms also apply between you and Apple.
